Activities

Below are a small selection of the activities we get up to as a Troop, just to give you a taster of what you could be doing as part of Viking Scouts.

Pioneering

We like to get the Scouts working and using the skills that we teach them during weekly meetings to complete bigger challenges in the great outdoors. From orienteering, to night navigation, fire lighting and survival skills, they all need testing from time to time.

Here the Scouts all worked in their Patrols to produce the component parts for this impressive gateway. In the past they have also built rope bridges, lookout towers and chariots, which where then raced around camp.

The Scouts all enjoyed putting their skills to the test and got stuck in helping each other out. The gateway stood the tests of time and was still standing at the end of the week, when it was all carefully dismantled. This is just one of the ways that we have applied skills learnt indoors to challenges outdoors.

Indoor Climbing

Indoor Climbing

While the great outdoors is always fun, there is no reason why the indoors can't be just as great!

Some activities work in both conditions and here the Scouts spent several hours climbing at an indoor wall. They really loved the challenge and encouraged each other to climb as high as they could, pointing out good moves and offering support when someone else was finding it tough.

Physical activities are an important part of Scouting and as well as the common games we like to throw in some more unusual ones, climbing, kayaking and assault courses are just a few examples.

These are just a some of the activities that we get up to on top of our normal weekly programme. We try and get out and about whenever we can and get the Scouts involved in as many new and exciting activities as we can. To find out what we really get up to, you will have to apply to Join Us and come along to our meetings. Join the Adventure!

All activities are run in accordance with The Scout Association’s Policy Organisation and Rules and any other guidelines provided on additional factsheets, provided by the Scout Association. Activities by third party providers are run in accordance with industry standards.
